RuneScape Introduction Information

Introduction
Runescape is by far the best online multiplayer game compared to others around such as Habbo Hotel. One thing that you should be aware of is that this game is of a high addiction level, and can get you sitting on it for hours on end.

Skills
Runescape is set back in the middle ages. This is shown by the various skills you can improve such as mining, crafting and more. You can increase the skills by training them. As you get higher, more doors open to you and you can take your skill further. For example, if you were to improve your mining skill from level 1 to level 30, you would then be able to mine something else such as iron ores. However, there are many milestones, at which you can achieve something. For example (in the mining skill), being able to mine a different ore, or using a different pickaxe. You gain experience by practising your skill, and you can gain different amounts by training on things that requires a higher level. However, as you progress through levels in Runescape, it gets harder and harder, as the experience needed to gain a level in a skill gets larger. This example is not accurate, but to get from level 1 to 30, the experience needed may be the same amount to get from level 70 to 71. In total there are 99 levels, with 99 being the highest you can get. When you get to 99 if you proove yourself worthy enough by training, you can still gain experience.

Below are a list of all the skills in the Free To Play part of the game and a general overview of them:

Attack - This is part of the melee section of combat. A higher level in attack means you are more accurate against enemies when fighting with melee.

Strength - This is part of the melee section of combat too. A higher level in strength means you can hit higher causing more damage to your enemy.

Defense - This is part of the melee section once again. By increasing your defence level, it increases your chances of being safe from attacks. It also allows you to wear better armour and clothes when fighting enemies.

Magic - This is perhaps one of the best combat types. By using magic, you can cast a variety of attacks and also other magic casts to weaken your opponent. You can also use magic for many more things such as teleporting and many more. Magic requires runes. These are made by runecrafting or bought at rune shops. Magic isn't an upfront style of combat and can be used far away from your enemies.

Range - Range is another good combat style. You need arrows to wield with your bow. The higher your level, the better bows you can buy and wield along with arrows. Rangers can be very quick and can be used by a long distance against enemies.

Prayer - This is kind of a side combat skill. Some people train prayer a lot, but some people out to kill in the wilderness (more about that later) will leave this level alone. Prayer allows you to basically pray and enables several things if you have a high enough level, but it does run out and requires to be recharged at an altar. Prayers such as keep one extra item if you die, and increases strength by 15% and many more can help you out when in combat.

Hitpoints (HP) - Hitpoints, possible the most important of them all! You gain this through any damage dealt to your enemies through melee, magic or range. When you level up, that is one more level of health added to your stats.

Woodcutting - This isn't a very popular skill, but a lot of people use it to gain money, as certain trees you cut give off logs that can be worth good money. It is not the hardest of skills, as it only requires you to cut a tree. When you get higher levels, you can cut more trees of which their logs are worth more and are of greater value in the game.

Firemaking - This is one skill that really is a bit pointless. The reason is, because there are so many cooking spots all around Runescape. The only reason some people may have high firemaking levels, as it is quite easy to get up, and you can just make all your logs you cut into fires (with a tinderbox of course).

Mining - This is one skill that can get you a lot of money as i mentioned before. You can mine different ores, and then use these ores in smithing, or sell them. Gain levels, and you can mine better ores, and also weild better pickaxes to mine with.

Smithing - This is where the ores come into use. You use this skill to smelt them into bars. Certain levels are required to smelt into certain things such as bronze, iron, steel, and all the others. Smithing is also used in making the weapons. A hammer is required though. You can make a wide range of weapons and equipment with this skill, rather than buying them. A good way to make money if your smithing level is high.

Fishing - This is one skill you should get up. Throughout Runescape, you will always need food, and this is where the bulk comes from. A lot of people use fish as food, such as lobsters, but all the rest as well. You can catch a variety of fish and gain experience and levels by catching them.

Cooking - This is where you cook the fish. You need a high enough cooking level to do so. Say you needed level 20 cooking to cook a salmon, you may still burn some if you try to cook a full inventory even at level 40. There comes a time where you get better at cooking and are less likely to burn them, depending on what the food is and what level is required to cook them in the first place. The good thing is, you can also cook things such as pizzas! Cakes! Pies! Stews! And many more!

Runecrafting - This is how you make your runes for magic. You have to complete a quest however, before being able to get the rune essence, which is needed for runecrafting free to play runes. You gain experience from crafting them, and can craft multiple amounts such as two times the amount of essence you have when you gain levels. You need to go to an altar such as the air altar (for air runes) to craft them. You will need the matching talisman, which can also be made into a silver tiara, which you can wear, therefore just get in without having to hold the talisman.

Crafting - This skill can come in very handy, but a lot of people don't seem to realise this. You can use this skill to make everything else you can't make by smithing. This includes some armour, but also jewellary, items and lots more. You can also cut certain gems by having a high enough crafting level.

If you decide to pay to play, there are many more skills you can gain levels in such as Herblore, Agility, Fletching, Construction and many more. All these skills can become very useful and provide more to do and work on.

Quests
These are just like missions in any other games. You can start them at certain places depending on which quest you want to do. Some quests require certain skills in order to even try them, but some just require a good enough combat level to do them. However, not all the quests involve fighting enemies! A lot of the quests just depend on you to past messages on, help out people and make Runescape a better place!

There are a variety of free quests to do, however there are many, many more quests on pay to play. This has to be the main difference apart from all the places you can go to when you pay to play. When you pay to play, there are also a lot of mini games you can do. These are shown on the world map by a certain symbol, so just look out for them.

When you complete a quest in Runescape, you gain an amounr of quest points, and maybe something else such as experience in a certain skill or money or an item. Quest points are also one of the things that may be required to begin a quest - you may need a certain amount of them.

The World Map
Runescape is huge! So much to do! So much fun, and most of all so many places to visit! You can have a look on the world map when playing runescape, but i know of another site for example which has one just like it. This link will be at the end of my review.

The main places to visit in the free to play area of Runescape are:

Varrock: This has to be the main place, as it has the most shops and also the castle. There is a lot to do here, especially if you have money to spend.

Lumbridge: This isn't so popular, as there isn't much to do in the way of shopping, but there are sites such as the lumbridge castle where you begin the game after the tutorial island. There are many places to train around here as well.

Falador: This is the other main free to play city to visit. There are a range of shops here that aren't anywhere else such as the shield shop. Falador also consists of the White Knights Castle.

When you begin the game, it is very hard to navigate your way around, but you will get used to the map after a while and learn it off by heart.

Guilds
When you reach certain levels in skills, you can enter guilds. Pretty much every skill has a guild, however some skills, even some of the free to play skills require you to be a member to enter.

Guilds are good, as they are like a checkpoint in the way you can go there at a certain level, and improve that skill even more in a new enviroment, and they make it easy to get experience. In guilds, you can also buy certain things, or just go there to buy common things of that skill.

Friends
Runescape is all about the online play right? You can make friends on the game, and add them to your list by clicking their name when they say something, or just add them manually.

You also have an ignore list, at which you can add players you wish to ignore in the game. This will block messages from them and maybe other things but i am not sure.

Music
There is a music feature in Runescape, which will play the suitable music for the area you are in, but there are also more tunes to be unlocked by visiting that area or something else. It doesn't seem to actually work on my mac, but from what i have heard they aren't bad.

Other Stuff
Well, there are a range of emotions. Some of which are unlocked by quests or random events (more about that next). You can do things such as nod your head for yes, shake for no, stamp your foot, do a zombie dance, jump for joy, panic, becker, do a raspberry, and many more!

You can change your settings and change the brightness of the game, and many more things. One screen also allows you to run and walk depending on which you want.

At times like Easter, Christmas and Halloween, there are kind of themes. I have never experienced these before, but i know you can get certain items at these times by random events or killing monsters and they drop them. They can only be gotten at this time, therefore are rare and valuable after a while. I know people from years back playing that have things like Santa hats from christmas years ago.

Random Events
These occur randomly, but normally when you are doing something like fishing or mining. They won't just happen when you are walking along. There are loads of these, and some are different on pay to play. They can result in you getting a reward for completing them or being teleported somewhere if you fail. They are all different and quite fun. More common than others. Generally, they are all good in the way you get an easy reward. Some are quite hard however, and require skill.

Pay To Play
This is obviously a lot more beneficial in the way you can improve your skills without as much hassle, and there is a lot more to do. There are loads and loads more places to visit, and many more quests. You can also train a variety of new skills. It is not bad at around £5 a month and less if you pay for a year. You can pay by text, phone, credit card and more ways to suit you.

NOTE: I would advise you are of at least level 30 combat before you become a member, or it is not worth it and you will waste your days when you could be getting more out of the subscription with better skills.

The Wilderness
This has to be one of the most exciting but dangerous bits of Runescape. This is the area north of the map in wich players can attack eachother providing they are within level of eachother. By this i mean they may be in a suitable depth of the wilderness to attack eachother. This means a level 126 (highest level) cannot attack and probably kill a level 3 (lowest level) in one shot in level 1 Wilderness. Infact this can't happen at all, as the wilderness doesn't go up to a high enough level.

Here is an example of what i am trying to explain:

You have a level 10 and a level 15. They must be in a Wilderness level of at least 5 to attack eachother. Level 4 and they can't. This calls for all levels, so always do your maths before thinking "OMG a low level! I can attack him!" OR "OMG no! I better run, that guys level is higher than mine and he can attack me!"

There are also MULTI AREAS, in which more than one person can attack another, as long as you both follow the Wilderness depth rule allowing you to attack. This is where people going player-killing tend to hang in groups to get quick and easy kills, so be aware around these areas.

The Wilderness is a good place just to train and pick up things as well, as some things spawn in the Wilderness, which also lures people in. It is a fun place to go to test your real skill.

Banks
This is where you can store your items, and there are many throughout Runescape in different cities and places. People also sell and buy stuff at banks, so if you are looking for something and want to buy it off someone, then just go and ask at a bank, and if you want to, state a price you will pay. After a while you will get in the know of how much things should sell for. If you are not sure, look on the link at the bottom of this review for info.

In free to play, there are a certain amount of bank spaces you can use, but you get the full space when you pay to play. Either way is a good amount. You store items, and if they are the same such as cowhides, they will stack so only take up one space, but you could have 500 in that space. You can withdraw whatever you want when you want. You can withdraw it as an item itself, or a note which can't be used, but it saves room if the item can't stack in your inventory.

You should make up a bank pin from the start of your game! Just visit a bank and speak to someone and select the correct option and make one. It is created after 7 days. It protects your bank from being broken into if you ever get hacked, which is very rare.

Children
Children can play this game, and the majority of players are children. You must be at least 12. It is very safe for several reasons:

• Protects children from swear words, by blocking them all and even abbrevriations. However people have found ways of typing out certain words.
• Teaches them all about trading and money and skills.
• Report feature can be used by them if they want to report anyone else for being rude in language or actions or antyhing else.
• Teaches them about real life things such as the skills featured in the game. I have learnt some stuff myself from playing this!

Thinking Of Starting?
Well then go ahead! Runescape is a great game, the greatest free game online, but gets you addicted quick! It sucks the time out of you, which is the down, due to its' 4 star rating. It is fun though, as you can interact with others online and have fun playing the game. You can become the greatest, richest person in Runescape!
Before you start, please read these tips:

• Don't be worried, Runescape is pretty safe and the majority of people are nice who play it. Beware of any suspicious people, and if you feel the need you can report people for a variety of things such as their language, actions and more. THE REPORT feature really works! I know myself, as i have gotten warnings for some things i didn't mean to do/say.
• You will get used to the great size of Runescape after a few weeks, and will be able to find yourself round. Until then, just ask people as a lot aren't afraid to help you. Some may charge 100gp to give you a taxi to somewhere.
• Start earning some money from the start! Even if you train, you can try it on chickens, and get their feathers! Then cows, and get their hides! Feathers can sell for 2-20gp each and cowhides can go for around 60-100+ each.
